You’ve booked your dream vacation at Sandals (or you’re thinking about it — in which case, congratulations, you’re halfway to paradise!). Whether you’re counting down the days or still choosing which island calls your name, there are a few insider tips that can make your first Sandals experience even smoother. These aren’t the things you’ll find in the brochure — these are the little nuggets that seasoned guests know, and first-timers wish they did.
1. “All-Inclusive” and What It Really Means
A Sandals’ resort truly covers everything: top-shelf drinks, scuba diving, water sports, airport transfers, tips, and more! Gourmet dining, food trucks, and snacks galore! You’ll keep waiting for someone to hand you a bill… they won’t.
2. The Airport Lounge Is the First Taste of Luxury
Most guests don’t realize Sandals has arrival lounges in Caribbean airports (like Montego Bay). A comfortable sitting area with juices, bottled waters and various snack items are available while you wait for your transportation (also included) to the resort.
3. The Resort You Choose Really Matters
Each Sandals has its own unique vibe — some are more social (Ochi, Montego Bay), some are romantic (Royal Barbados, Emerald Bay). With many of our travel advisors being Sandals Specialists, we encourage you to reach out to see which resort fits your travel needs!
4. To Reserve or not to Reserve?
While reservations are not needed at most restaurants, each Sandals resort has one or two that we recommend you make reservations early to secure your chance to dine there. Not to worry though, with each resort offering several, some up to 16, dining options you will not go hungry! A wide variety awaits — from Indian and sushi to French and beach grills. A personal favorite is Soy, their sushi option which is a must try!

5. Not All Rooms Are Created Equal — and Butler Service Is Next-Level
Just as each resort has its own distinct qualities, inside that resort are multiple room tiers (Luxury, Club, Butler) that offer something different. A butler category room, as its name suggests, offers butlers who bring beachside drinks, unpack bags, or draw bubble baths — “even paradise could use an upgrade.”
6. Excursions and Local Adventures Can Make the Trip
A key part to any Sandals trip includes a visit off resort. We recommend pre-booking these excursions as they can sell out quickly. Island Routes tours to Instagram-worthy sites, catamarans, snorkeling, and even a heart-warming journey called the Reading Road Trip, where you can visit local primary schools to read with children, help with literacy, or engage in other activities.
7. Pack Smart (and Light!)
Sandals’ dress codes are resort casual — fewer heels, more sundresses and polos. Don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen, a waterproof phone case, or a nice outfit for dinner at Butch’s or Le Jardinier. We suggest bringing a refillable water bottle (like your Stanley or Yeti to keep that frozen concoction icy) and your favorite reusable straw.
8. The Staff Will Remember You — and Treat You Like Family
Sandals is known for warm, personal service; many guests return and find staff who actually remember them. They love to be a part of your vacation and want to help make it as memorable as possible.
9. Bring Some Cash For Optional Extras
Though tips for regular staff are included with your Sandals stay, you may want to bring cash to tip your excursion tour guides/drivers. Other extras where having that extra cash could come in handy are spa treatments, photo packages, or cabana rentals.
